Finally the mice pups are here Mommy gave birth 12, so I think we may need to 'eliminate' some. It's not wrong, it's for mother mouse's sake. It's different thing than eg. gerbils. Cuz mouse can birth even 16 pups, and female has only 12 nipples, and so the others cannot get enough milk and mom gets stressed, so we doo need to 'eliminate' some.. It's not nice, and it should be done before pups are 3 days old (says law). And we now need to think seriously should we eliminate or not. usually breeders left about 6 pups.. so.. But more info will be added then.

You dont have other nursing mums that you can foster them to? So what ways you use to "eliminate" the pups?

With mice u need to eliminate them if there are too many pups. Yeah, i meant killing. Mice in wild birth really much pups so even some may survive. Now that we have mice in pets, we do need to eliminate some, as I said, for mum's sake. If there are too much pups, the pups are not going to get enough milk and they stay too little. Mom mouse feeds her babies till death, is it said. So even the mom mouse is too weak to feed that big litter, she'll die eventually and what to do with pups then. This is my first mice litter, so Iam not going happily eliminate them. Don't think that way. Many breeders said to me _before_ even thinking any litters, that you may need to eliminate some. And that I should know that and get ready for it. I must say, that now that I have that litter and they are so young and small.. it even makes me sick to think about eliminating. But eliminating is still right. I don't want to lose mom, she's not mine and this is her first litter. Mice can even eat their babies in week old! And one thing about that eliminating. Law says that you can 'quit' those mice babies 'by hand' before they are 4 days, so you can 'quit' 3 days old pups. And older than 3 days should be 'eliminated' in umm..this is hard to explain.. in carbon dioxide box. There carbon dioxide replaces the blood and first animal fall asleep and then peacefully dies. It's even more friendly than going to vet, where she/he puts some needels to your pet who then cramps and vomits and then dies. I think I should stop to this, this is getting too long and noone doesn't want to read it anymore

that kitten milk is not good enough for mice babies. And it would be a miracle really if that young would survive by feeding them by humans.

Well, at least carbon dioxide is a fast way, as compared to injection. All the best to the rest of your litter and mum

oh dear canot imagine i kill my own pups... Me either, but I do have to. That mom mouse's life is in my hands. Cuz there is no predators, as u know And some pups may die also cuz they doesn't have enough food to eat. This must be done by love to own pet.. or how is that said

Some new pics about my gerbils: This was my first breeded gerbil, the pic is not good, but gerbil is pew, female and called Lady Queen: Loved it.. and miss so much. This is a pic of my first litter, 'A', Lady gave birth 8 pups, one died maybe instantly or were dead when born. 3 died to that respitory illness,or whatever is it now called. So 4 survived, all argentes (dad was argente). 2 males and 2 females. and all four and mom: Okey, that was litter A. I have been posting already some pics of litter B & C so no need to do it now. 'Babies' from those litters are fine I have 2 older gerbils, Minttu and Allu. Minttu is black and Allu is pew. There's no good pic yet of Allu, but here's Minttu: As you can see, she starts having white hairs more, where haven't been before. Oh, and Allu will be 4 in autumn and Minttu will be 4 in late autumn. And here is Heinäsirkka, 'heinis', argente female, the mom of litters B and C posing : And litters B's and C's dad, Kaskelotti, 'kaskis', agouti male posing: I hope you liked the 'show'. More coming.. //modified, oh, those timestamps are not right in those pics
