Pecan passed away after being very ill for a day. She was slowly recovering from injuries sustained from declanning while pregnant at the same time, but after the wounds healed, her eyes were half shut and she became a little less active. Yesterday her eyes shut almost completely and she did not drink, and froze while standing or eating for around 10 minutes at a time. I tried to clean her eyes to see if she could open them better after that, she lay still while I cleaned her, but after that refused to swallow the vitamin water I gave her. I put her back in her tank and she went to her favourite resting place, drapped on top of a U shaped pipe. She was already cold when i found her this morning.
I'm sorry Pecan, I was too anxious for red eyed pups, and now I have lost you too. You were my first gerbil, a very good mum to all the pups I have. I'm sorry you had to die even before reaching 1 year of age. I guess I still have a lot to learn about gerbils. Rest in peace.....
