Hi All,
Duchess delivered 1 big pup this morning at 10pm.
I decided to let Duchess foster 2 of Solace's 5 pups.
Solace's a first time mom and doesnt seem to feed the pups well.
They are 4 days old and still looks skinny. I worry Solace is stressed by 5 pups.
Duchess took the 2 foster pups readily..... so does her elder 2 daughters who are living n helping her out. Duchess licked and fed all 3 pups. ;D
So that's the consolation. I hope this will help Solace to feed her other 3 pups well.
I did some preparation for the fostering. I rubbed the foster pups body esp the anal area with Duchess's "fresh" poo. Took some of Duchess bedding and and the foster pups in a container for 5 mins.
Then I took Duchess pup to join the fosters in that container.
The next step, I took Duchess n her 2 elder daughters out of the tank. Hide the 3 pups (2 fosters n her pup) in her nest. Then allow Duchess into the tank first. Once she discovered the new pups and accepts them, I let her other 2 daughters back into the tank.
Risks are taken. Thankfully, Duchess cleans the new pups and feeds em readily. She also introduces the new pups to her elder daughters.
I am keeping my fingers crossed.
