My gerbs got sick a month back. They sleep alot and are very restless. They all had bloody nose..... it's their nasal that produces bloody mucus when they've caught a cold. Must have got it from my kids.... So owners, pls practice good hygiene.... if ur sick, try to stay away from them or clean ur hands really well before handling ur pets.
For treatment, Multi-vits in water....lots of oats and put on a warm lamp during cooler and rainy weathers.... Mine recovered within a week.

I read somewhere that bloody nose could mean allergy to the wood shavings, especially if using pine or cedar shavings

Wrong bedding and cage may cause a sore nose. Also (this is hard to translate to english, but try to get the point) increasing 'tearliquid' may cause sore nose, caused form Harder's gland, and it's not dangerous. It's not blood though it looks like it,but it's only red liquid. Usually this respitory illness is healed by antibiots and cream to nose. (here eg. terrapoly and bepanthen). Also vitamins mixed to water is good to give. Nails are also good to cut. See also: malaysiagerbil.proboards84.com/index.cgi?board=health&action=display&thread=1143284055
